Residential RE-UP Homeowner Roadmap
The RE-UP Roadmap is designed to help homeowners and landlords access affordable financing for energy-efficient and resilient home improvements. Through this process, you’ll become better equipped to:
- Identify home upgrades that reduce utility costs and storm risks
- Connect with trusted local contractors
- Secure flexible financing to complete your project
- Build long-term comfort, savings, and resilience
To become a Residential RE-UP Borrower, follow these six simple steps:
Step 1: Submit Your Loan Application

Begin by completing the Residential RE-UP Loan Application to let us know you’re interested in becoming a Green Mortgage Borrower and start your homeownership journey!
Once submitted, a member of the Finance New Orleans or SELF team will follow up with you to confirm your qualifications and guide you through the next steps.
Step 2: Connect with an Approved Contractor
After confirming your eligibility, you’ll be paired with a RE-UP Approved Contractor from our vetted local network.
Your contractor will:
- Help you assess your property needs
- Develop an estimate and project scope
- Recommend eligible improvements that maximize savings and protection
Step 3: Get Project Approval and Loan Underwriting

Your contractor will submit your project scope and cost estimate to the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) for loan review.
SELF evaluates your application based on income, payment history, and project feasibility. NO minimum credit score required.
Step 4: Finalize Your Loan and Sign Documents

Once your loan is approved, SELF will walk you through the closing process.
Loan funds are sent directly to your contractor after verification to ensure a smooth and transparent transaction.
Step 5: Install Your Home Upgrades

Your contractor will complete the approved energy-efficient and resilient home improvements such as:
- HVAC and insulation upgrades
- Solar and battery installation
- Roofing, windows, or storm protection systems
- Water-saving and accessibility improvements
All work is monitored and verified for quality and performance.
Step 6: Enjoy the Benefits of Your Home’s New Resiliency

Once installation is complete, you’ll begin enjoying the improved comfort, enhanced property value, and lower energy costs of your home.
These energy-efficient financing and upgrade improvements contribute to a more resilient New Orleans community — one home at a time.
